Braves take the championship! Braves cap incredible 14-2 season in championship victory over the Padres...... The Braves ended the season in grand style Friday night at Century Park by defeating the unbeaten Padres 20-19 to win the Coach's Pitch Tournament championship. The Bravos won their final four games in the tournament to take the title after falling in game two to the Diamondbacks. The win also avenged an earlier loss to the Padres, who came into tonight's game at 13-0. The Braves got off to a quick start, scoring six in the top of the 1st. And though the margin was never big, they led the entire game until the Padres scored six in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 19. The Braves scratched out a run in the top of the 6th to take a one run lead when Cole Hunter scored ahead of a Sam Gravley single. But, the Padres had a tough group of Padre hitters coming up. After one out, a single sent runners to 1st & 3rd, but the runner at third took off for home. The Braves got a huge out at third when Colby Thomas flipped the ball the Brasen Haney, who applied the tag for the second out, and after the final out by the next batter, the Braves had claimed the game, and the tournament championship to go along with their Eastern Division crown. This season was a blast! I can't tell you what a great group of boys we had on the team. It is a large commitment to play baseball, and the kids were wonderful. You parents & fans were wonderful too. I have to say that this will be one of the highlights of my life to get to do this with my son, my family, and all of ya'll. I know we all need a little break, but it is bittersweet that it is over. At least it is over knowing that the Braves are champions! Thank you too to the greatest assistant coaches in the world too, Chris Burgess, Terry Hendricks, Kent Haney, Mark Balardini, and Greg Spearman. And special thanks to Susan Balardini for being Team Mom & for taking lots of pictures. Great job guys! Thanks again for letting me share in this great experience. We are VERY proud of you all!
